New Builds

Butser Ancient Farm

Project Description

This was a great project which involved building a new visitors centre at Butser Ancient Farm.  It is named ‘The Janus Building’ after a Roman God of beginnings and transitions, a fitting name for the new visitors centre.  The building is constructed primarily from timber from sustainable sources and is built on oak piles deep in the ground.  It is highly insulated using natural lambs wool and a Gutex fibre board.  The outside was clad in a Larch rain screen boarding.  The whole build was environmentally friendly with solar powered extractors, photo voltaic cells providing electricity and solar panels heating the hot water backed up by a bio mass boiler.  There is also grey water harvesting.
